Ciao for now!
Visited the agency today to sort everything out. I spoke to the people in there for a while, before they started asking me if I was aware that the job they were offering me was long hours, and that I would have to be thick-skinned. I just told them to give me the job. Then they started saying that there were other jobs they could probably find me with 'well-spoken people'. But I just told them to give me it anyway.
So I gathered that they thought I wasn't going to mix with whoever worked at the place they had suggested originally, mulled it over in my head on the train home, and thought better of it. I phoned them on my walk back from the station and told them I didn't fancy it any more. Why can't I just find a boring 9-5 job where I can sit at a computer and be bored with no other stress all day?
Anyway, I just did some online tests for the agency so they can examine my spelling, grammar etc. I'm pretty sure I got 100%. However, I was using a tabbed browser and didn't realise that the tests appeared in a popup (there is no ceremony or flashing windows when a new tab opens in the background). So by the time I realised what was happening, a couple of minutes had already passed on the clock and my scores were probably dreadful as a result, or they will probably think I cheated. I think my life is cursed lately.
Careers in short: waiting to hear from BA, Betfair and the Police.
There's a possibility I may have a job starting on Monday. Only a temping one. Long hours, low pay. But still.
When I rang an agency and they actually had a job, I thought for a second that the world might stop turning. Anyway, it's nothing definite, we'll have to wait and see.
In any case it looks like I'll have to have a shave for the first time in ages, just in case...
Got up earlier and had a look at the Aus v India Twenty20, and Aus were already 1.01 to lay. India 74 all out. That's game over. Have a couple of hours to fill before SA v Windies begins.
Lastminute is pulling the plug on this blogging feature, so this blog will be over before it really began. I'll probably start another one elsewhere.
Man City v Arsenal tomorrow lunchtime, which will mean an all-dayer out on the lash.
Careers... BA said they'd get back to me within 14 days, and today is the 14th day. Maybe even the 15th, depending how you look at it. Doesn't bode well. The police? I don't think I'll ever hear. I've decided that if neither of those two come in, I'm going to have to seriously consider going on a plumbing/electrics course or something. Put an end to all this fannying around and uncertainty.
Anyhow, I don't actually know when this site will be terminated, but hopefully there'll be time for another couple of posts...
Thanks for reading.
I've just backed Tottenham to win the UEFA Cup at 10/1. Four reasons why:
1. 10/1 seems a fair price. Tottenham have a potent attack, so their success will depend on whether they can sort it out at the back. With rumours flying around that Woodgate might be joining, plus King getting fitter, they might become (a bit) tighter.
2. Ramos has a history of success in this contest, winning it two years on the trot with Seville.
3. Spurs will probably progress to the next round at least, so the 10/1 will shorten, giving me the chance to trade out.
4. Enough of the Tottenham praise. As an Arsenal fan, this bet is an insurance policy against Tottenham success. I've had to put up with more than enough bullshit in the press this week after that freak 5-1 result. They even lost 3-1 to Man Utd in the FA Cup yesterday and the press still won't shut up about them. I hope Slavia Prague dump them out straight away in the next round.
Been doing quite a lot of trading the last few days, with mixed results. It's a real shame that the Aussie cricket is on so late, because there were plenty of opporutunities that I missed to make some decent money. Can't complain though, I was still green on the final Test and I'm still up for the year.
There's no more decent cricket on until Friday, which means I'm going to have to find something else to do to fill the days this week. I watched some of the African Cup of Nations yesterday, and the standard was pretty shocking. At least two tackles in the Senegal v Angola game would have been straight reds in the Premiership (with absolutely no debate), and they didn't even get bookings. It wasn't uncommon to see players run down the wing and put a cross in, only for the ball to rocket out of play on the other side of the pitch... without bouncing! And funniest of all, some of the players were wearing gloves... what the?! I've just had a look on BBC weather, and the temperature there today is 33 degrees. They'll probably be in sweatshirts later.
Ok folks, that's all for now.
Greetings all. I really haven't been up to anything for the last few days so there's nothing to write about apart from sport and gambling.
I watched Nadal get absolutely destroyed by Tsonga earlier. Rafa hadn't conceded a set in the entire tournament, then got totally demolished 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 by a man who hadn't even been in the top 200 a year ago. I had backed Nadal when he was a set and a break down hoping/thinking that he'd come back. He didn't even get a sniff. Tsonga was playing unbelievable shots from all positions, just indredible. I remember watching Tsonga beat Hewitt at Queens last year and then do well at Wimbledon, but what a performance in this Aussie Open.
Tomorrow it's Federer v Djokovic in the other semi, I'll have to do my best to get up to watch it. Should be extra-interesting seeing as apparently Federer doesn't like Djoko much.
All this watching tennis has given me Grand Slam Fever and I really feel like playing... anyone fancies a hit, give me a shout.
On the cricket front... My early back of the draw in the 4th Australia v India Test has gone ok, though I've taken the small green for the time being and layed Australia. Of course it's not impossible, especially because it's Australia, but it will be a tough task for the Aussies to win this test. If India manage to get to 400 tomorrow, the first thing Oz will have to do is post a big total. That will probably take the game into day 4 and it will only be the end of the first innings. Then they'll have to skittle India's quality batting lineup and fire off the necessary runs before the 5 days are up. It won't be easy, though their odds are still mid 2.x, so I couldn't resist the lay. We'll see how it pans out.
Gambling in general... so far this year I've adopted a more conservative approach, using smaller stakes and hopefully a bit more discipline. I'm still up for the year at the mo, which is all I can ask for. The lower stakes takes a bit of pressure off and I seem to be making a few more good calls. Hope it continues.
Poker... been playing quite a lot the last few days. I have a rigid bankroll-management scheme which will ensure I never go broke, and clearly lays out which stakes I should play at and when. My best game is limit hold'em, though I've been playing a lot more no-limit lately. Very small stakes, but when I reach certain targets I move up in limits. It's strange how I have absolutely no problem in sticking to bankroll-management rules in poker, yet in sports I always find the temptation to 'lump on' harder to resist.
Life.... had a sore throat the last couple of days, not a bad one but just the annoying variety. Had a blocked nose when I got up today but it soon went. It's Darren's fault for constantly being ill and spraying everyone with his germs. I just better not get as ill as I was this time last year.
Drinks later. Will watch a bit of the cricket when I get in. That's enough for now!
Just came back from a greasy spoon lunch with Chopper, Cleaver and BnD. Very unhealthy but hit the spot. We put all our change together and put it on good old Trap 6 in the 1.44. It lost.
Tonight we have Spurs v Arsenal in the Carling Cup. I've backed the Scum to qualify, simply to help ease the pain a bit if that should so happen.
Tomorrow evening is the start of the fourth Australia v India test. I've backed the draw with a view to lay it when one team posts a huge total on the flat wicket at Adelaide.
Not much exciting to report lately, apologies if my posts have been a bit boring.
Careers in short: waiting to hear from Police, BA, Betfair, plus a job at a charity that Valerie wants me to look into...
Just wrote a massive blog entry but then my internet screwed up and I lost it all. Had been in a good mood before that. Now I'm in a bad one and you'll just have to read the abbreviated version.
Watched the South Africa v Windies ODI all day. Won 3p. At least I didn't lose.
5-a-side tonight. Squad is depleted so having to bring in a couple of debutants. The team: Me, 'Capper, Chopper, 'Atchet, Gibaut, Tom Herriott.
I'm hungry and have to eat. Ciao for now.
